Brooklyn Taxi Disaster Double Bass Renewed

This was a very customized double bass, based on French Mirecourt designs, with violin corners added, in a very J.T. Lamy French red much beloved by Brooklyn jazz phenom Max Johnson.  Hard to categorize with our current models (former-Professor-quasi-Brescian?), this bass serves as another example of – if you don’t see exactly what you dream of in our signature models, we can still get there.

As an urban dweller, Max is used to bringing his bass through subway turnstiles, crowds and gigging madness, but couldn’t control whatever happened involving a curb, a street and a moving cab. This bass was mashed – the top punched in, ribs cracked, a heart-breaking disaster. Get insurance kids! (Max had).

We can rebuild him…
We have the technology…

As Eric likes to say – it’s still just wood, and we can fix it. In this case, a new top and bass bar, rib cracks fixed and gloss finish-matched by Chris. Still hints of battle patina, but with a new top, musically as good as new.  This bass means a lot to his owner and is ready to return home.
