SOLD: Jacques Gagnon Double Bass, Cappa Copy

-

Healthy mahogany Jacques Gagnon double bass patterned after a 1695 Giaffredo Cappa contrabass.

Description

Long C-bouts and deep ribs characterize this Gagnon / Cappa double bass copy. The label traces the design to a 1695 Giaffredo Cappa instrument built in Turin. This Gagnon double bass features mahogany throughout, a unique build with a dark, defined character.

Gagnon is a bassist and builder from Montreal who set up shop in the Philippines building string instruments based on early historic designs. He generally uses woods local to the Philippines with a good sense for vintage patterns and tone. Jacques Gagnon upright basses are known for a large, dark sound and easy playability.
