This John Juzek Master Art Double Bass dated 1933 is a fully carved, compact Gamba design in great condition. This vintage upright bass can be set up for jazz, classical or roots music.
For our model based on this classic design, please consider the Upton Bass Bohemian double bass.
This Juzek bass has been well maintained and speaks easily pizzicato or arco. This Juzek upright bass bears its original, hand-signed red label. Jan Juzek was a violin maker in Prague who bought instruments from various craftsmen in the Bohemia region under his own name for import into the United States. For the Master Art series, the craftsmen adopted standard patterns of classic luthiers, including: Stradivarius, Guarnerius, and Gagliano. This double bass is a Stradivarius copy. Juzek labels were imprinted with the location of the Juzek shop, this one being stamped “Made in Czechoslovakia.”
