Offered here is a special John Juzek double bass from the 1950s, built in Prague. After many repairs, the tired original top was replaced here at Upton Bass with a new hand carved spruce plate, carefully copied and antiqued to blend with the older construction.
This vintage double bass now features a lively response and a strong, nuanced voice. A great blend of old and new, ready for another lifetime of music.
Gamba cornered, with beautifully figured maple back and sides. A new fingerboard, nut, saddle & endpin were installed, and an Upton bridge was cut at the time of the restoration. This bass plays incredibly well and has that same, even sound throughout for which Juzek is so well known…and “growl” for days!
