Pöllmann Double Bass No 61-V, Serial 502, 4/4 Size 1973 “Lion’s Head Scroll”

Highly ornate Pöllmann contrabass formerly owned by the late, great Charlie Haden. Used heavily in the 1970s with the likes of Keith Jarrett and Carla Bley. This bass is said to have been built expressly for Haden by Gunther Krammer as told to us by Chris Poehler (among others).

This special instrument features full ornament and the distinctive lion scroll, deep ribs, and the highest quality figured maple one can find. It was built at the fabled Mittenwald shop under Gunter Krammer, a third-generation Pöllmann luthier. It also bears a label from a repair done back at the Pöllmann shop in the 1990s.
