Description

ARCHIVED LISTING: NOT FOR SALE

This Seth Kimmel Double Bass, with its remarkable pear-shaped design, was built in 2014. This bass is as elegant as it is whimsical. It’s well built with great attention to detail.

We’ve seen a few Kimmel instruments with a great breadth of designs and are big fans. Each is finely crafted utilizing his remarkable wood stock from the Pacific Northwest.

While their forms go from classic to highly original, Kimmel double basses always display superior workmanship and most importantly, they’re fun to play and sound great. This version of “Bigfoot’s Guitar” plays like butter with a giant presence befitting its name.

The wide ribbed lower bout pumps a lot of bass tone, with the vented “sound ports” in the upper bout lending an immediacy to the player’s ear.  We’ve seen these ports before in some of Arnold Schnitzer’s designs and the effect is impressive. The larger heart-shaped port in the C-bout also serves as a grip to pick up this cornerless instrument. This double bass includes the trouble-free Kimmel removable neck system for travel.
