SOLD: French Guild Double Bass

-

SOLD: Classic Mirecourt style bass with gamba corners and a distinct pear shape. Ergonomically ideal for solo players with small upper bout and sloped shoulders.

Description

This French Guild Double Bass is a classic Mirecourt style bass, featuring gamba corners and a distinct pear shape. This French double bass is ergonomically ideal for solo players with its smaller upper bout and sloped shoulders. It is a fine instrument suited to those looking for a smaller, or easier-to-play bass, especially in the thumb position. It is a strongly-built instrument that has been modernized with a grafted scroll, and is set up with D’Addario Helicore Orchestral strings. Similar basses of this style carry names such as Colin Mezin and Paul Bisch, or Jean Thibouville-Lamy (JTL Workshop).

This Mirecourt bass has seen almost a century of use, and its condition is representative of that. But don’t let that scare you – it has a beautiful clear tone and has been played non-stop as a working instrument for the last 30 years. Despite its age, this bass has been well cared for. A prospective buyer could address some repairs in the future to keep the bass looking and sounding great for the next 100 years. Our luthiers suggest regular maintenance on all basses, however, we recommend a higher level of care for all vintage and solid wood basses such as this one. The listed sales price is reflective of the instrument’s current condition.
