Description

J.T. Lutz Double Bass Schönback Bohemia CA 1880

This J.T. Lutz double bass is a classic example of what is widely know today as the “Bohemian” double bass. So many times we have seen a bass we can definitively call Bohemian but rarely attribute the true makers name. The Lutz family has a deeply rooted history of instrument makers originating in the early 1700’s in Vienna.

This bass has a sweet and even Arco sound and strong punchy pizz, it’s pattern is similar to that of the famed Gemunder.

Johann Lutz II, Schönback. Born 1854.
Son and pupil of Vinzenz Lutz.? Good workmanship; was head of the firm JT
Lutz founded in 1875.
