SOLD: New Standard Double Bass, LaScala Model, 2005 Germany/New York

-

This lovely laminated double bass is from New Standard Instrument Co., a collaboration between our friends Arnold Schnitzer and Wil DeSola. An elegant, compact German plywood with a fresh setup just completed here at Upton Bass.

Description

This New Standard Double Bass is a fully laminated “LaScala” Model, built in 2005. This LaScala is a rare fully laminated violin-cornered version with attractive well-figured outer plys.

The New Standard Instrument Co. was a collaboration between top luthiers Arnold Schnitzer and Wil DeSola, sourcing excellent German shells and completing them by hand in their workshops stateside. The result was a line of affordable quality contrabasses with excellent tone and projection, slightly stout with a smaller footprint.

This bass features a fresh new setup from Upton Bass including new bridge. We’ve also installed an elevated saddle (pictured) decreasing the string angle and taking stress off the bridge. Nice thick ebony fingerboard, German Rubner tuners, German endpin. An extremely high quality, clean plywood double bass – tough and suitable for school, band or orchestra settings where carved instruments can suffer. This New Standard double bass would make an excellent pit or outdoor bass for professionals!
