Marc Johnson is an American jazz bassist. In 1978, Johnson joined legendary pianist Bill Evans in what would be Evans’ last trio. Johnson toured and recorded with Evans until the death of the pianist in 1980. Marc has a vast recording history, and currently tours with his wife, pianist and composer Eliane Elias.
Marc needed a travel-ready bass that could withstand harsh airline treatment as well as meet all of the size and weight requirements placed upon double basses today. We met with Marc right as the removable neck system Gary invented was in its final stages of development. A small, lightweight (SUB 19 lbs!) hybrid was made for Marc and right off the bat he took it to China on tour.
