The UB Standard Hybrid Double Bass represents our entry-level hybrid upright bass, carefully conceived with the playability and resonance of all our models.  We believe it is the most musical and finest built hybrid double bass available at this price.

The UB Standard Hyrbid is a round back double bass with a carved spruce top and plywood back and sides.  All of our plywood is made in-house from our own tonewood veneers, and the top is carved by the same guys who make all of the custom Upton basses!  Its design is based on the gamba pattern of the Upton Bohemian Model.  The UB Standard Hybrid is hand built in Mystic, Connecticut and features top grade ebony components, German tuning machines, our best quality bridge and more.

The end of the fingerboard is straight cut (no solo swoop extension).  The hand applied varnish is a medium dark walnut color.  A bass bag is not included.  Please check out our selection of contrabass bags and pickups!

These specifications allow us to offer a double bass at this price with the acoustic design and ergonomics of the Upton Bass lineage, hand built by expert luthiers with the respect a musical instrument deserves.

You may be asking – what if I want a different color?  What if I want the solo swoop?  At that point you are starting down the road of a custom Upton Bass build – you might consider the Upton Bohemian Model, with its great value and tremendous flexibility.

The Standard is built on our Bohemian pattern with a string length of 41.5″ and a D neck. For sizing variations, please talk to us about building a custom Bohemian.
