The Bohemian Model Upton Double Bass

The Bohemian Model Upton Double Bass

In the double bass world, the term “Bohemian” refers to the instrument building tradition in the western Czech region surrounding Prague – the source of classic contrabasses by such names as Juzek, Prokop, Bittner, and Lutz. In the general sense, Bohemian refers to the artistic wanderer; restless and adventurous, unburdened by extravagance. The Upton Bohemian upright bass combines these two notions – renowned quality and frugal sensibility – resulting in a flexible, reliable instrument ideal for a broad range of musicians. Please note the Bohemian Upton double bass is the SAME design and pattern as our Popular Standard Model however the build, materials, fit and finish are that of our better level branded Upton Basses. The “Standard” model was made as an economical instrument.

The Bohemian is not about excess. With its simple lines, Gamba-style cornered and deep booming tone, its form is defined by purpose without ornament. Hand-built, with the same ergonomics and playability found in all of our models, the Bohemian upright bass is being offered in three levels of build styles and price points, each carefully designed to meet the unique requirements of its owner:

Our popular, high value and economical Hybrid Upton Bass Bohemian version is built with a hand-carved European spruce top with inlaid purfling and slab-cut laminations of domestic poplar on the back and sides. Durable for the rigors of everyday use, with the tone, depth, and resonance of a carved top and sound players expect in an Upton Bass.

As with all Upton Basses The Bohemian model Upton Bass is available in three build styles, with a full array of add on and upgrade items to choose from:
