ARCHIVED LISTING, NOT FOR SALE:
Giuseppe Pino Cazzaniga Double Bass 1991, Monza, Italy
This is an early Pino Cazzaniga double bass from 1991 built-in Monza, Italy (Giuseppe goes by “Pino”). A very nicely built slim and elegant Italian contrabass with long C-bouts It’s a magnetic presence – we gravitate around here to really dark varnishes! Apparently, this bass sustained damage in an automobile accident and was returned to Pino Cazzaniga himself for repairs. Working with the past owner, Pino decided to recoat the bass a dark brown to help “hide” some of the repairs, however, the value of the bass was severely diminished because of the accident.
Pino Cazzaniga studied violin making in Milan, then opened his own shop – this must be one of his first double basses. He still has a small shop, now closer to the sea where he mostly works on restorations and specially commissioned instruments.
