D’Addario Helicore Orchestral Double Bass Strings are constructed of a multi-stranded steel core that produces a warm tone quality. With the help of DAddario Musician’s Advisory Board members, D’Addario designed several Helicore double bass string varieties, including the Helicore Orchestral (H Series). The core design makes for strings that feature an unprecedented arco response but are also well suited for pizzicato applications where a very warm, less-sustaining sound is desired. This design also provides ease of use for both bowing and pizzicato, thus making D’Addario Helicore Orchestral Bass Strings a very popular choice in orchestral strings. All D’Addario strings are designed, engineered, and manufactured in the USA.

Helicore Orchestral Double Bass Strings are available in two gauges, which allows for good performance across many playing styles.

• Medium Tension: optimized for a majority of players
• Heavy Tension: allows for greater projection and volume potential

Gary’s Thoughts: As the name denotes, this string is responsive to the bow and a budget friendly alternative for those seeking a responsive arco string. I’ve also seen some bluegrass and other earlier traditional jazz players enjoy the fast decay and “plunkiness” of this string when played pizzacato (with the fingers).
