Lovely Joel Mentec double bass, built for Gary Karr in 1983, Firminy, France.
This instrument was custom built for and owned by Gary Karr and shows his preferences in its viol shape with high overstand and a very accessible upper bout. Mr. Karr has refined these preferences to this day, in the quest for a large balanced voice with the greatest fingerboard access – as seen in the Upton Karr Model.
This instrument would go on to be cared for by Mr. Karr’s students in conservatory and performance settings and has always been played and diligently maintained.

- Rib Depth: 6.75″ at endblock, 6.5″ at cant, 5” at neck block
