SOLD: Abraham Prescott Double

This Prescott double bass restoration candidate is the ultimate barn find. Still in it’s original 3-string configuration as it left the Concord, New Hampshire workshop in the early 1800s.

This is a very exciting opportunity for the future owner to play a huge part in the choices to be made in its restoration!

Description

Abraham Prescott Double Bass

This Prescott double bass restoration candidate is the ultimate barn find.

This may be the most original Prescott we have ever seen (outside Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts). Still in its original 3-string configuration as it left the Concord, New Hampshire workshop in the early 1800s. Original tailpiece even. Original neck set and fingerboard. As a reference, we are cataloging every measurement and detail – although Prescott basses vary greatly, just knowing this is how it came originally is quite a thing to dwell on.  As we thought about the low fingerboard projection, huh – the original bridge was even inside the body!

There’s definitely an interest at the shop to just restore and reassemble, leaving all those original details intact. What does a “stock” Prescott 3-stringer feel like to play? Or sound like? Of course, we know that may be impractical for a modern player. And no fine instrument deserves to simply be a museum curiosity. This is a great opportunity for the right future owner to play a big part in the choices to be made in this Prescott double bass restoration!
