Description
Andreas Morelli labelled double bass circa 1900-1920s, fully carved “Artist Deluxe” model.
This upright bass bears hallmarks of possibly German origins.
The quality and old-growth wood choices are excellent and the arching and elegant shape make it stand out from similar basses. This century-old Andreas Morelli labelled double bass really comes alive under the bow. It has a long design with large lower bout but feels comfortable and natural to play. A very nice character of sound in this vintage double bass, would make an excellent section or chamber instrument.
Some workshop notes: “I love the look of these basses every time they come into the shop! And something about them makes me think they are made by the same workshop as the German-made Hawkes basses…they just share too much DNA.”
