Description

Arnold Schnitzer double bass, AES 50. A very special new 3/4 size contrabass from Arnold’s workshop in the Southwest. Ergonomic violin-cornered and fully carved with C-Extension. Back of amazing figured Walnut.

Arnold’s notes: “I was visiting a woodcutter in western NY state getting some neck blocks cut. I asked about a shed on the property and he let me look inside where he was storing some amazing walnut. Inside I spied a magnificent flitch about 9’ long and 3’ wide. It was not for sale but I made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. I made a one-piece back from half. The other half had a split down the center so I cut out that area and rejoined it to become the back of bass 50. Fortunately, I had matching rib material from previous builds. I selected my finest Alpine (European) spruce top to match. All the wood in this instrument was harvested at least 15 years ago.”
