Czech Double Bass, Mid-20th Century, Fully Carved with New Replacement Top
This mid-20th Century iconic Czech double bass has just been fitted with a new spruce top. This lovely medium sized Juzek-pattern bass came to us with the top in pieces. Rather than stifle the tone with a myriad of patches and plys, it now has a custom-fit Upton top. The inside has been fully gone through and the setup freshened with new Upton bridge. The ff-Holes of the original were copied, and the varnish matched to a deep warm tone, with nice grain on the original round back. Excellent original hat peg tuners and scroll plates. A straightforward rebuild/restoration of a classic bass, with the emphasis on tone and playability. Vintage style and patina with a big eager, open sound, and the stability and maintenance free care of a new bass! Measurements:
- Upper Bout: 20″
- C Bout: 14.75″
- Lower Bout: 25″
- Rib Depth: 7.5 – 6″
- Length of Top: 43″
- String Length: 42″
