Description
This Donald Gorman made double bass was made in 2003. Below are a
few notes from the maker:
“The scroll was (as per tradition)
done by a master carver in the
Czech Republic. The machines were
made by Greg James of Toronto. The outline
of the bass is something that I’d
been working on for a number of years.
When the first of this model was
completed, it bore quite a resemblance to a
Piatellini but much larger. His
basses were very small. The wood is Engelman
Spruce form the B.C. interior and the
maple is broadleaf from the Fraser
Valley in B.C.”
This double bass features highly flamed maple flat-back and ribs and
an elaborate carved lion’s head
scroll. The tone is dark and full, with a rounded pizzicato and a
deep warm arco. Completely setup and ready for purchase in our Boston,
MA showroom!
