This fully carved bass was built in Penzberg, Germany in 1977, label reads Erich Grunert (Gruenert), and is signed underneath by Horst Grunert. Stout German design with deep rib depth, and fairly compact dimensions. Gamba corners and long C bouts ideal for bowing, with the clarity of maple for a beautiful singing arco tone. Good setup and condition, some repairs, well played and cared for.
The previous owner used this instrument throughout his conservatory training, and successfully auditioned with it to land a chair in a major American symphony. We hope it may do the same for the next owner! An excellent symphonic and chamber music concert bass, with lovely patina. Recently strung with Evah Pirazzi Weichs.
