This stylish instrument is from the Framus company in Bavaria, makers of some fine classical string instruments and better know for a long line of exotic electric instruments that were used by the biggest stars of early rock n roll.
In the 1950s they made a successful line of dance band basses, played by the likes of Oscar Pettiford, and here is a (surprise) fully carved example in very good shape. A unique time capsule from the era!
