SOLD: German Wilfer/Juzek Double Bass, c1950s

-

Iconic late 1950’s/early 60’s German Wilfer / Juzek double bass with gorgeous patina. An excellent fully-carved vintage double bass for students or pros, in fine health.

Description

SALE PENDING: German Wilfer/Juzek Double Bass, late 1950s. Stradivarius copy label. Many details match Juzeks, for good reason! This lovely mid-20th Century bass is one import label away from being a Wilfer-built “Juzek.”

The stamp on the scroll suggests this instrument was first at a learning or music institution, but it has been privately owned and spoiled with excellent upkeep for most of its life. Most recently, from the skilled hand of luthier Robbie MacIntosh. Geometry of the neck appears to be reset to a more modern projection. Cracks on top have been addressed, in good repair. Back extremely healthy.

The patina on this instrument is something special! We took way too many pictures of it here in the shop as a varnish reference. It just looks cool from every angle. Features all the playability, musical flexibility and compact gamba shape of these iconic contrabasses. An excellent fully-carved double bass for students or pros, in fine health. Realist pickup, currently set up for jazz.
