Description
Günter Krahmer-Pöllmann Double Bass, Mittenwald, Germany c.1981
This Gunter Krahmer bass has a lyrical shape with long C-bouts and ff-holes. The pronounced arching and detail demonstrate this 3rd generation Pollmann builder’s exquisite craftsmanship (Günter is the father of current legacy custodians Michael and Ralph). The highly flamed maple back and sides and warm spruce top display their remarkable Mittenwald wood stock.
Gunter built Charlie Haden’s famous ornate Pollmann, unmistakably from the same hand in his prime. Somewhat compact, with great access over the upper bout and wide dimensions in the bass bin.
Charming and magnetic, a great bass! Even and very responsive under the bow. An excellent contrabass for chamber or solo work. The instrument is very solid and would be perfectly suited to an advanced college student or performing professional.
