Description
Hawkes & Son Panormo Double Bass circa 1920, distinctive broad shoulders and pronounced arching on this larger instrument.
We’ve seen a lot of Hawkes basses in the last few years, this example is pretty special. The condition, the color, and most importantly, the sound. It plays and sounds great.
7/8ths size round back with violin corners. Top of two-piece medium-grained spruce. Back of two-piece curly maple with matching ribs and linings. The neck is original of curly maple, with original scroll and original individual brass gears. Full Kolstein restoration in 1974, halfway through its first century.
Take everything you love about the Hawkes Professor and Concert level basses (the look! the tone!), and then make it more playable, and you have the lovely Panormo model. With slightly narrower ribs, and shoulders not as broad, the Panormo model Hawkes bass is the one you have been searching for! These Panormo models dont come up for sale often publicly…so dont hesitate on this one as it will be gone soon as its truley superb!
