SALE PENDING: Jacques Gagnon Double Bass, Ruggeri Copy
This Jacques Gagnon double bass is a nicely built fully-carved contrabass with a big sound and a classic design. Gagnon is a bassist and builder from Montreal who set up shop in the Philippines building string instruments based on early historic designs. He generally uses woods local to the Philippines with a good sense for vintage patterns and tone. Jacques Gagnon upright basses are known for a large, dark sound and easy playability – this is no exception.
Long C-bouts and deep ribs characterize this Gagnon / Ruggeri double bass copy. The label traces the design to a 1669 Francisco Ruggeri instrument built in Cremona. There is a neck repair and a crack in the back that have been addressed with good repairs, currently set up for Jazz with our Rev Solo pickup. Nice setup, really fun to play for walking lines. Would make a fine section or conservatory bass too at a good value!
