Description
John Juzek Master Art Double Bass, 1948 Serial 946
This John Juzek Master Art double bass is quite simply the nicest Juzek we’ve ever seen, and we’ve seen a lot. A “black label” Prague Master Art label has been hand dated 1948 and numbered (946), that alone is something novel. Post-war 1948, Master-art copy of Stradivarius with incredible flame and a one-piece back…
Most likely built by the Wilfer family, this violin-cornered bass may have been a special commission or a sales showpiece as the instrument trade ramped up after the war. This example is also a time machine marvel with no alterations or signs of major injury. It’s just in another category than a common Juzek, even among the Master Art basses. Flamed maple throughout with a rippling backplate carved from a single piece. The new owner will have a very special double bass, refreshed here at the Upton shop while carefully preserving its unique originality…she has growl for days!
