Description
We are privileged to present a Vintage 1922 Mirecourt French Double Bass!
This a beautiful 1922 Mirecourt, France instrument by Charles Bailly, addictive to play pizzicato or arco, in fine condition.
The intact 1922 label reads, “M. Mathieu Lutherie Artistique,” this is one of several trademarks Mr. Bailly set up for his family string shop – the brand “Marcus Mathieu” is taken from his grandfather’s first name and his grandmother’s last.
The instrument has an extremely well grafted neck, preserving the lovely open ported pegbox, scroll and vintage machines. Has a thick, extra long fingerboard with modern projection and a D neck. The Quenoil “pear shape” pattern is long, svelte, and offers extraordinary upper bout access for the soloist. Lots of style and character, eager and sonorous, expertly played and maintained.
A fine provenance includes letters of appraisal from Arnold E. Schnitzer and David Gage.
