A fine Mittenwald Double Bass, no label, very early 20th Century. Beautiful vintage details and old-stock wood, flatback with lots of projection and a joy to play.

Description

A fine Mittenwald Double Bass, no label, very early 20th Century. Expertly restored scroll with newer hat-peg tuners. Our resident bass tester and educator fell in love right away: “This bass easily makes the list for ‘Bryan’s Choice’ if there were such a thing.”

“This is a gigging jazz musician’s bass all the way! It has plenty of snarl, growl and sustain and plays fast and effortlessly. The restoration work is beautiful and makes this instrument solid as a rock and ready to go to gig after gig right here in the New England weather. There were some very smart choices made to bring the string length down from 43” to 42 such as the T-nut and the shaping of the bridge. And I love the recessed plates on the tuners.”

Can be set up for any style of music you play,  It’s only because this bass has no label that the price is where it is. Ready for the next century of low notes!
