Description
This Otto Rubner Double Bass was built in Marchneukirchen, Germany in 1941. As improbable as it seems, the violinmaking city of Marchneukirchen on the Czech border was largely ignored during World War II and unharmed by Allied bombing.
Several older violinmakers, with young staff from larger operations off to war, continued to build instruments from their old wood stocks.
The intact label points to just such a story, Otto Rubner remaining at his shop building an amazing bass. Stunning wood, great sound and ease of play make this a standout in crowd of German basses. The back and ribs ripple with figured tight grain maple. This bass has had an expert restoration and a very nicely done C-Extension added. Needs nothing. This instrument has a story to tell and a remarkable voice to tell it – a tremendous value at this price point, and a staff favorite.
