Robert G. McIntosh double bass from June 2009, hand built in Cambridge, New York.
This bass is the “Cuite Spruce Series #1 of 3,” Cuite referring to the structural contractor from whom Robert procured the spruce. The beams of a mid-1800s building were being replaced with steel in order to install a pool on the roof… Rob salvaged the original beams of Sitka spruce, now well over 150 years old, yielding enough to make the tops of three instruments! Two have been made so far.
The back and sides are made of mahogany, with a flame maple neck and mahogany scroll. Beautiful hand worked wood throughout, lightweight and extremely resonant giving a very eager response and cello-like clarity in the higher registers.
