SOLD: UB “Cavani” Double Bass

-

This UB “Cavani” Custom Double Bass is the result of a project that has been a few years in the making. It began when we met Marc Ramirez at an ISB convention and he commissioned us to make a travel version of his c1870 Giovanni Cavani double bass. The travel model was a success and was essentially a scaled-down version (with our patented removable/adjustable neck) of a true violin makers bass.

Upton Bass made two of these travel “Cavani” models: one specifically for Marc and another to sell in our showroom. This “Cavani” travel double bass is a fully carved concert instrument with a deluxe spruce top and ribs and back of poplar. It features many upgrades including the UB patented adjustable and removable neck, solo fingerboard, and antiqued tuners.

The fine instruments of Giovanni Cavani (Modena, Italy, 1851-1936) are renowned for their excellent craftsmanship and reputation for tone. Despite being scaled down from its original pattern, the UB travel “Cavani” lives up to its name. Marc dropped by our shop recently and couldn’t be more excited about his new travel bass.
