SOLD: Upton Bass Brescian Double Bass 2013 – Fully Laminated Special

This custom fully laminated plywood double bass was conceived a few years ago on two levels:

For the player, we built a large orchestra bass that his conductor would not suspect of being a plywood – expressly meant to deceive so that he could have all the benefits of a laminated instrument in a grueling outdoor spring, summer, fall, rain, shine symphony schedule without letting down the side. Mission one accomplished!  The deep voice and projection of this flat back Brescian lifted the bass section while the dark, old finish did not draw scrutiny.

For Upton Bass, it allowed us the opportunity to really flex in building a full-bodied plywood. In a moment when American Standard basses and copies are the darlings of busy gigging upright bassists, we wanted to make sure we had that territory covered – that we could build something better, more intense, more tactile.

We welcome comparison! This big denizen excels in every respect and is priced below any factory competition.  Broken in primarily under the bow, but has tons of snap and growl pizzicato. Expertly played and one of a kind.
