Description

Upton Bass Soloist Custom Commission Double Bass

This bass was conceived by a cellist for bowed solo work. After much searching and many near misses, he brought his ideas to Upton Bass to be realized.  Looking for the playability of a cello with the tone, and the unmistakable look of a double bass, the soloist was created.

He was looking for a tenor contrabass, tuned in fifths – F,C,G,D, the low string tuned one fifth below a cello.  The instrument size is larger than a cello with a scale length of 35.4 Inches (90cm).  Truly a unique instrument with brilliant, singing clarity.

This short-scale gem can be tuned or set up to your requirements. It would, of course, make a fantastic petite contrabass!  Currently, it is set up for orchestral pitch (EADG) and everyone who plays it is surprised at its bass voice!
