Description
Pictured here is a New Standard Instrument Co. “La Scala” double bass, no. 391 from 2013. These instruments are the brainchild of Wil DeSola, who has the instrument shells built to a very rigorous standard in Germany, and then assembles, finishes and sets up the basses here in Connecticut.
Violin corners, full ribs and gently sloping shoulders with good upper register access. The sound is more direct and less “puffy” with excellent definition and considerable growl. Excellent tone and projection for a moderately sized instrument with a shorter string length.
