SOLD: W. Ed. Voigt Jun. Double Bass circa 1930

-

Pictured here is a W. Ed. Voigt Jun. double bass from Markneukirchen Germany.

This company was established in the early 1920s, we’re placing this one around 1930, similar to “Voigt and Geiger” labeled basses made for import to a Chicago dealer.  Fully carved workshop bass from the prestigious “Musikwinkel” valley near Czechoslovakia where violinmakers have been building for 350 years.

The bass is light, extremely resonant and on the smaller side, loud and eager with a great vibe and vintage patina.  A crack in the neck
heel has an old stable repair, probably a bolt capped with a wooden plug on the button.  Maintained with a new wooden saddle and an extra long honkin’ thick slab of ebony fingerboard, raising the vintage geometry a bit.  Charming and easy to play, a shy old dog which will blow the doors off most Juzeks!
