Description
This Wenzl Wilfer Double Bass 1976 is German built and features a fully carved roundback body, highly figured maple back and sides, inlaid and gamba corners.
We see many Wilfers here, they built many of the postwar Juzek-labeled basses that came to America. This instrument is on another level – a brilliant hand built instrument with Wenzl’s personal label showcasing the art that those abundant factory instruments echoed.
Old growth maple back and sides ripple with pattern, but the classic lines and expert joining speak for themselves, with no need for excess, and all the features that make Bohemian double basses popular: compact, strong and for a fully carved, quite easy to live with. This bass is suitable for a wide spectrum from chamber music to the section to the bebop bandstand.
