Description
The Realist Double Bass Pickup is the result of a collaboration between Ned Steinberger and NYC-based luthier David Gage. They felt a transducer should be equal in its ability to recreate an acoustic pizzicato and arco sound through commonly used amplifiers. Furthermore, this pick-up had to be simple, dependable, and affordable. After years of consideration and tests, they came up with the Realist Upright Bass Pickup, which consists of a piezo in a flexible housing that fits between the top of your double bass and the E string bridge foot.
The Realist Double Bass Pickup is available with the original copper element (Copperhead) or wood element (WoodTone). The difference is largely aesthetic, though the sound is slightly different, so if you’re not familiar with these pickups, please feel free to ask the experts at Upton Bass for additional information.
PLEASE SELECT WHICH MODEL YOU PREFER ON THE CUSTOMIZATION TAB ABOVE BEFORE ADDING THE ITEM TO YOUR CART. THE DEFAULT OPTION IS THE COPPERHEAD IF YOU MAKE NO SELECTION.
Due to the material and installation of the Realist Pickup, we cannot accept returns. Please accept our apologies.
Gary’s Thoughts: The Realist Upright Bass pickup is the choice pickup for many players around the world. It is important to note that the pickup can skew the fit of the bridge foot on most basses; however, this can easily be adjusted by your luthier. It’s also worth noting that the piezos on the Copperhead can cause two tiny indents on your top. If that is a concern, get the wood one as compression is minimized in that configuration.
