Thomastik SuperFlexible Double Bass Strings are a dependable string known for unsurpassed durability, tuning stability, and tonal purity. Braided steel core.

Description

Thomastik Superflexible Double Bass Strings are made with a braided steel core for universal use. This double bass string is an advancement of conventional solid double bass strings, lying midway in the path of evolution from the solid core double bass sting to the advanced spiral core type of upright bass string. Thomastik Superflexible Double Bass Strings are responsive and their tone seems to radiate from the instrument without harshness. Unsurpassed durability, tuning stability, and tonal purity make Superflexibles a dependable all-around double bass string.

Thomastik Super Flexible Double Bass Strings are available in Orchestra Medium Tension or Solo Tuning. PLEASE MAKE YOUR STRING SELECTION IN THE CUSTOMIZATION TAB ABOVE BEFORE ADDING TO YOUR CART.

Gary’s Thoughts: Thomastik SuperFlexible Double Bass Strings are a lower cost alternative to Spirocores. As the manufacturer states, these are a very durable string; however in my mind they are much more of a jazz string than a classical string. Despite being largely overlooked by Thomastik, SuperFlexible strings have a sound that many players will enjoy the sustain and growl of.

Highlights:

  • Universal-use string for arco and pizz
  • Excellent purity of open fifths
  • Dependable all-around string
  • Great sustain and growl

Thread Color Key:

  • Medium (M) = Blue Bottom, Blue Top
  • Solo = Blue Bottom, Yellow Top

I am about to order my second set of superflexibles. I play a 1950s Kay – mostly bluegrass and some bowing. I have no complaints at all. The strings are big and boomy – high stings are right on. And they last a long time. This is bad, but these strings are three + years old and are really just losing the crisp tonality. Anyway… A 5 star from me.

Thomastik Superflexibles are what i have presently on my Boosey & Hawkes 3/4 Upright, i like them because they are so easy to work with. They bow so easily which is what i require at the moment. Pizzicatto is okay, not as good as the Euronsonics i had on my bass but okay. I would say the superflexibles are a good all round string at a good price too.
