Upton Bass Gary Karr 2010

$12,500.00

Here’s a special piece of Upton Bass history: Opus No. 69 of our Gary Karr Model, completed in 2010. This bass is one of the earliest examples from our collaboration with Gary Karr — a major figure in the world of double bass performance and pedagogy. It has a hand-signed label by Gary Karr himself.

This bass reflects the best of what we were doing back then, and still holds up beautifully. It’s got the signature slim-line Karr form, a flat back, and clean, classic lines that helped it earn a Silver Medal for Tone in its day. Though we’ve since evolved our models, this one still speaks with clarity, warmth, and depth.

Description

Poplar back and sides.
41 inch string length.
D-neck
Currently strung with D’Addario Kaplan (can be changed upon request)
Excellent condition. Well-used but clearly well-built.

Perfect for the serious high school or college-level orchestral bassist looking for a carved instrument with character — or a player who wants a great jazz box with a bit of setup tweaking. It would also be an ideal candidate for a C-extension, or enjoyed as-is.

You won’t have to wait months for a build. This bass is ready to go — and comes with a unique spot in Upton’s history.

Please note: Shipping for double basses must be quoted individually. If you check out through the website, USPS or UPS may auto-calculate a rate, but neither carrier handles double bass shipments—so these quotes are not valid. For an accurate shipping estimate, please contact us at sales@uptonbass.com or 860 535 9399. We’re happy to help you with all the details before or after your purchase.
