The Upton Report Vol. 2.11

If you’re not an active follower of us on Instagram, or waiting for your bass to be finished, you may not know what we’ve been up to all summer!

With COVID-19 we’ve all been hit with varying degrees of challenges, and getting basses to folks in a safe and affordable way has been a hassle. Restrictions on the pickup are forcing higher than normal rates, and just trying to be a part of keeping people safe through social distancing practices, made us (ok, Gary led the charge!) think outside the box.

Gary had a Sprinter cargo van that he used for small expeditions, slightly modified from stock so it was an ad hoc camper, and we set out to make it a mobile hotel room so Gary could hook up a trailer and safely deliver basses to customers all over the USA.

We’ve been documenting the process of outfitting the van, and now the journey, on a new Instagram account you can find HERE.

Now OF COURSE we just couldn’t slap it together! We’re bass makers after all…so, we did it right and tried to capture the essence of what we are and what we do inside the van. Wood choice & materials were carefully selected for sustainability, nontoxicity, and aesthetics. The van can live off the grid, an important aspect as it meant not needing to stop at hotels and to minimize food stops. This will keep Gary and his son (father & son bonding trip!) safe along the way, but it’ll serve to keep our customers safe too as Gary has minimized his interactions.

If you don’t have Instagram…sign up and just follow us! The trip has just started (and they’ll be others after this).
