Description
The Double Bass Wolf-Be-Gone Wolf Tone Eliminator by Super Sensitive, stops unwanted wolf tones. It easily fits on the string below the bridge, and is an often essential tool for anyone playing arco.
A wolf tone is produced when a played note matches the natural resonating frequency of the body the double bass, producing a sustaining sympathetic artificial overtone that amplifies and expands the frequencies of the original note, frequently accompanied by an oscillating beating (due to the uneven frequencies between the natural note and artificial overtone) which may be likened to the howling of the animal.
Wolf tones are usually only noticed when bowing the double bass and can be reduced or eliminated with a wolf tone eliminator, such as the Wolf-be-Gone. In basic terms, it is an attenuator that slightly shifts the natural frequency of the string (and/or double bass body) cutting down on the reverberation.
