The response is incredibly easy and flexible, and the notes are separate and distinctly clean when played in fast passages–whether playing Spicatto or Legato. The core sound is full, round, and warm. The complex overtone spectrum results in a deep and noble sound with great projection and power. The sustain characteristics of the string allow a strong, warm pizzicato in an inspiring diversity of sounds. Pirastro Passione Double Bass Strings are constructed with a high-tensile and very flexible rope core, which offers optimal sound and playability characteristics.

Gary’s Thoughts: Pirastro Passione Double Bass Strings are very bow friendly, much like the Thomastik Belcanto, but with a slightly lighter tension. The Solo string set feels “normal,” about as close to orchestra tension as possible, but without that wirey frustrating sound.
