He used several different styles of labels, and had many pupils throughout his career including Karel Vavra, Antonin Kolomaznik, and his children; son Alfons and daughter Ludmila.
This Vavra double bass was made in Prague, in 1931. It is a flat-back, with a fully-carved top. The instrument features Gamba corners, ebony “hat peg” tuners (which are original to the instrument), and a lovely honey amber oil varnish. It is a rugged bass, with a lot of character, and would be a perfect advanced student instrument. This bass has not yet been setup by Upton Bass. The price of the instrument includes the full Upton setup.
