American Standard Upright Bass SN2312 c1953
The H.N. White Company started making double basses in 1936 but soon stopped
due to WWII. Production of the American Standard basses resumed in 1949,
and this American Standard double bass is estimated to have been made in 1953.
A 1951 catalog advertisement from the
www.hnwhite.com archive website:
As Upton Bass String Instrument Company is the first NEW startup business to
manufacture laminated double basses in the USA since H.N. White & Kay, we have a
strong affection for these double basses and love preserving them for future
generations. As an interesting note, back in 1936 the following ad ran
promoting the American Standard basses. The promotion of American made
quality couple with keeping jobs in America is as true now as it was then!
Our 1953 American Standard double bass is freshly setup and in excellent
health, ready for another 57 years of playing!
