Just because Abraham Prescott didn't make a fully carved bass, doesn't mean we shouldn't! This was a "first" for us.  Now, don't get us wrong...we've made plenty of fully carved basses over the years...almost 100 as of writing this blog post, but this is the first fully carved Concord model Upton Bass. Using the same stock of domestic maple as we do on almost all of the Concords (check out the Spalted!), and pairing it up with a German spruce top, this Concord is ready to bellow out luscious low notes.  Deep ribs going all the way up to the elongated neck…

“Spalted” Concord Model Upton Double Bass

This may be the wildest Concord yet!  This unique log has gone into several incredible basses, and for our Head Luthier Eric Roy, this Concord revisits a special log not used since the 2011 & 2013 ISB competition basses, resulting in one of the most stunning instruments ever built by Upton Bass. We got to watch Eric build this instrument, stealing moments and sipping coffee while he steamed and bent the tricky figured Maple into the lyrical Busetto curves of this Prescott-inspired masterpiece.  It was created during the process of re-doing this website, and its build is featured in many shots throughout, as well…
