Upton Bass Concord Model Double Bass, 2013
This bass was really the benchmark of our new Concord Model when we started building it a decade ago. Committed to the project of creating a Prescott-inspired instrument, we were excited to build this ergonomic Upton with removable/adjustable neck and styling cues in homage to the Scott LaFaro Prescott. It was delivered to Bassist/Educator Max Murray at the 2013 ISB Convention in Rochester, New York, where a cross-section of bass luminaries got to play our new models and give us feedback.
Flat back, fully-carved with lightly-figured Eastern Maple and German Spruce top. Svelte upper bout with adjustable neck, Prescott ff-holes with “bee-stinger” brass plates and hat peg tuners like Scotty Lafaro’s. Expertly played and maintained, a very pretty varnish sets off this jewel of an Upton!
